A total of 1 366 foreigners out of a public service establishment of 108 743 are government employees, the Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele has said.

Mr Makgalemele said in Parliament that the majority of the foreign officers were employed by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education and Skills Development with 990 and 302 respectively.

The assistant minister said the officers were in the salary scales of C1, D4 and D3 adding that foreigners, who were recruited through external advertisements, were paid a contract addition (salary supplementation) allowance, which serves as an attraction incentive.

Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had asked the minister to state the number of foreigners employed by government in each ministry and their numbers at each salary scale. Mr Keorapetse also asked if these foreigners earn more than Batswana at the same scale or attract any allowance that Batswana do not receive. Ends
