Eight expectant mothers die

The Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele, says the total number of expectant mothers who died in the past five years (2010-2014) in the Okavango constituency is eight.
Dr Madigele told Parliament that the maternal mortality monitoring system reported all maternal deaths, in compliance with the Public Health Act, which has made maternal deaths.
He stated that the causes of maternal deaths were septic abortion, hemorrhage (bleeding) during delivery, pulmonary tuberculosis, eclampsia (complications of high blood pressure and puerperal sepsis (infection after delivery).
The MP for Okavango, Mr Bagalatia Arone had asked the minister to state the number of expected mothers who died at the time of giving birth in the Okavango constituency for the past five years and the causes of such deaths. Ends
