The Ministry of Education and Skills Development has launched a project dubbed Target 20 000.
The project, which is part of the education minitry’s five-year strategy, would help equip youth at the tertiary institutions with industry skills.
As per the project’s name, the ministry has targeted 20 000 students at these institutions.
Speaking at the just ended IPS&P conference in Gaborone, Dr Unity Dow urged tertiary institutions with accredited programmes in the areas of tourism, agriculture, construction, land servicing and emerging technologies to assist in achieving this project.
“Strengthening partnerships with local private and public tertiary institutions is the only way of ensuring that every one of our youths is skilled and positioned to play their role in this process,” said the minister.
She said the youth released from schools into the market should possess the kind of thinking and technical skills that industries and government needed to transform the economy.
The partners of the new project are Limkokwing University, Botho University, Ba isago University, New Era College, ABM university, GUC, EAT and Boitekanelo. Ends
