Masisi hails initiative

The Vice-President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi says one of the virtues of a good leader is the ability to inspire and make others believe they can use their God- given talents to better their lives.
Mr Masisi said during Moshupa Study Group celebration ceremony at the kgotla on Saturday (August 1) that it is the primary duty of a true leader to encourage and give direction when the chips are down and not to discourage and hinder potential.
A pioneer of Moshupa development show, whose premise is to expose talent of young people and allow convergence of ideas from the entire Moshupa populace, Mr Masisi expressed contentment that the fruits of the 2009 initiative was now enjoyed by all.
In particular, the vice president was happy that majority of the young people who had given up in life are graduates with various education disciplines among them art and craft, tourism, photography, pottery and many others.
That withstanding, Mr Masisi, who is also Member of Parliament for Moshupa/Manyana constituency took a swipe at some detractors whom he said never gave the initiative a chance.
Had it not been for lack of foresight displayed by such negative people, Mr Masisi believes the number of graduates could have been more.
He therefore commended Moshupa Study Group initiative primary partners; University of Botswana and the Ministry of Education and Skills Development for their support for the initiative.
The Minister of Education and Skills Development, Ms Unity Dow said the initiative is in line with her ministry’s 2020 strategy which advocates for greater interface between the school and the community.
“Every child is teachable and I am here to assure you as key partners in the promotion of education that we are with you,” she said.
Kgosi Oscar Mosielele of Moshupa expressed dissatisfaction at the absence of parents at the event; something he attributed to Batswana’s lack of appreciation of what the government is doing for them.
He said may be time has come for government to consider 50/50 sponsorship towards the education of the children in an endeavor to cultivate the spirit of responsibility amongst parents.
One of the graduates, Ms Gaone Mmonatau who is awaiting her results from GIPS where she was enrolled for an Advanced Diploma in International Tourism said her intends are to further her studies.
She said Moshupa Study Group has truly turned her life and that of many others around. Ends
