03 Aug 2015

Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Fidelis Molao, has urged church leadership to demonstrate high moral standards and accountability.

He was speaking during a fundraising dinner organised by the youth at Saint Lwanga Roman Catholic Church in Borolong on Saturday August 1.

Mr Molao said leadership within the church should always ensure that their moral standing in the community remained unquestionable.

He said leaders and other church members should refrain from undesired activities that could tarnish the church image.

“From way back, churches have also been considered at the forefront, meaning they played a role towards promoting good morals. As such it is wise that leaders and members keep away from activities that can cripple the positive image that churches have always been known for,” he said.

The assistant minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Shashe North, expressed gratitude over the gesture shown by the youth at Saint Lwanga Roman Catholic church.

He said it was impressing for the youth to be playing a meaningful role in activities that would bring in developments and contribute towards the growth of the church.

“We need to complement these youth, while some of their fellows are engaged in uncalled behavior such as alcohol abuse and other social ills, youth here found it wise to resort to the church so as to keep busy,” he said.

He noted that the fundraising activity was in line with the national values of self-reliance, adding that it would also help reduce dependency from the church head office or the government.

“Days when a church would rely on hand outs are gone. It is therefore critical that initiatives such as this one that can generate income for the church be encouraged and supported,” he said.

He also urged parents to complement fundraising efforts implemented by the by the youth as they will not only benefit he church but the community as well.

The assistant minister also pledged in P6 000 and a total amount of more than P14 000 was raised on the day.
