10 Apr 2013
Botlhe Chamme, 14, scooped the first ever Miss Disability beauty pageant held in Serowe recently.
The enthusiastic audience saw Golebaone Tubego, 14, and Thuso Sebidie, 17, scooping the first and second princess titles respectively, defeating nine other contestants. The winner went home with a combo set (a kettle, toaster and iron), while the first princess got away with a kettle and iron and the second won a bread toaster.
The judges had a tough time picking the winner because the contestants showed their excellent dancing skills. The contestants paraded in traditional and sport attires.
Vice chairperson of the HIV/AIDS committee at Tshidilo Rehabilitation Centre, Messiah Nthaeletsang said the event gave people living with disability time to mingle with others. Nthaeletsang stated that under the motivation of raising public awareness, they had road shows, workshops and family fun days rolled up their sleeves.
Speaking at the event, Kgosi Omphile Motsokono of Kgopa ward in Serowe cautioned people against discriminating people with disability, adding that every individual had a disability within themselves. The event, organised by Tshidilo Rehabilitation Centre raised funds for the centre.
It was held in partnership with Central Association of the Blind and Disabled, Serowe Association of the Disabled and Motetshwane and Makolojane Primary Schools. ENDS
