Ministry to prepare plan for Mokolwe Gabane

29 Jul 2015

The Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele says Mokolwe and some portions of Gabane do not have detailed layout plans.

Mr Maele said the Khudiring area had a detailed layout plan covered by those of Mogoditshane Block 5 and Block 8.  He said Mmankgodi had a 24-year development plan which started in 2006 and ends in 2030.

Mr Maele said the plan had projected that 125 hactares would be required to accommodate the village population up to 2030.

“On that note, a 101 hactare piece of land between Mmankgodi and Lenyena hills has already been detailed out and allocated,” he said.

He said another detailed layout was prepared on a 160hactare of land near the road junction to Manyana.

The minister said, however, the area could not be surveyed and allocated because agricultural field owners were yet to release their land for village expansion.

“Negotiations are, however, ongoing regarding compensation,” he said. The minister said his ministry in collaboration with Kweneng District Council would prepare detailed layout plans to cover Mokolwe and parts of Gabane during the current financial year.

“In Mmankgodi, the Thamaga Sub-land board will intensify its efforts and engage affected agricultural land rights holders to release their land for settlement expansion,” he said.

Gabane-Mmankgodi MP, Maj. Gen. Mokgware had asked the minister if he was aware that there were no layout maps for Mokolwe, Khudiring, Mmankgodi and some areas in Gabane which delayed water and electricity connections. He further asked the minister to state the remedies in place to help the residents of those areas. Ends
