29 Jul 2015

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development cannot state with any certainty when the offices for the Nata Sub-district will be constructed.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, however said efforts were being made to facilitate service delivery to the community.

She said the approved additional sub-districts (Nata being one of them) were to be constructed during NDP 10 and beyond.

She said, however, that none of the sub-districts were established as planned (except Mogoditshane) due to resource limitations.

The assistant minister said in an effort to facilitate service delivery, Nata was currently operating as a service centre.

She said it was operating from three porta cabins and offering 15 services provided by the Central District Council.

She said services offered include bye-law enforcement, environmental health, matimela, buildings, commercials, SHHA and some administrative services.
Ms Tshireletso said the office of the district commissioner provides mobile services.

The assistant minister further said an office had been constructed using Ipelegeng to augment the current office space.

She said electricity has been connected and just awaiting installation of metre boxes from Botswana Power Corporation, while Water Utilities Corporation had committed to connecting water by the first week of August.

Ms Tshireletso said other ministries departments offering services in Nata include those of; agriculture, health, education and skills development, youth, sports and culture, labour and home affairs, environment, wildlife and tourism and transport and communication.

She said the delay, as already mentioned, was caused by resource constraints.

She pointed out that as soon as the economic situation allows, establishment of sub districts would be prioritised during NDP 11 and beyond.

Nata/Gweta MP, Mr Polson Majaga had asked the minister when the construction of the Nata Sub-district would start as promised to the people of Nata/Gweta and the relevant authority in the district, and what caused the delay. Ends
