Minister aware of plot allocation
28 Jul 2015
The Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Thapelo Olopeng is aware that the Botswana Football Association (BFA) has been allocated a plot to develop a technical centre with a football pitch through FIFA funding.
The minister said the plot, number 43625 measures 20.4001 hectare.
Olopeng said construction of the project had not yet started as the site allocated could not meet FIFA requirements such as availability of water and electricity.
He said one of the conditions for FIFA to release funds was that services should be available inside the plot.
The minister further said he was not in a position to ascertain the time frame in which the project would commence, as the required services had not yet been provided.
He said negotiations between the Francistown City Council and the BFA were ongoing regarding the possible use of the old Francistown stadium.
He said the idea was to develop the stadium through the FIFA funding.
The MP for Francistown West, Ignitius Moswaane had wanted to know if the minister was aware that the BFA has been allocated a plot next to the main stadium in
Francistown to build a sports complex funded by FIFA, and if so, when would the construction of the project commence. Ends
