The Methodist Church of Southern Africa has been applauded for the role it has played in ensuring that there is peace and tranquillity in the country.
Speaking after a sponsored walk organised by the church in Phitshane Molopo on Saturday July 25, the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale said the church’s role in governance coud not be ignored.
Mr Molale said it was through the church that people find peace of mind thus contributing to good governance that leads to peace among nations.
He said the church has a big role to play in ensuring that the nation moves in the right direction, adding that it ultimately assists the government in ensuring that people live in peace and harmony with each other.
The church, he noted, acts as a place where people learn to live in respect for each other, and that it transcends to the nation where ultimately all learn to live peacefully and create a peaceful environment for all.
He urged the church to continue guiding people and to advise government on leadership issues.
He said it was through the guidance and advice of churches that Botswana has become a good example of peace and good democracy to other countries in the region.
The church held the sponsored walk to raise funds for its upcoming regional meeting. The meeting will see all its branches in Botswana and South Africa gathered in one venue. Mr Molale donated a beast to be slaughtered on the day.
He also raised and donated P4 250 in cash to be used in preparations for the regional meeting.
For his part, Reverend Odirile Mere thanked Mr Molale for the good gesture he has extended to the church, adding that it would go a long way in assisting the church.
Mr Mere said it was important for the church to rise as a torch that gives light to the country’s leadership.
The church, he said, also needed to be strong in guiding the government of the day and ensuring that peace that has always prevailed in the country continues . ENDS
