Football tourney unites Itekeng residents

The annual Kwambala Cup tournament which aims at bringing together residents of Itekeng in Francistown is growing gradually.
The three-day tournament, which was held recently at Itekeng Grounds, had six teams participating.
They battled it out to grab the P10 000 sponsorship monies.
The 2015 tournament champions are Itekeng Football Club which walked away with a new printed kit and P3 000 cash prize. They beat Sorry Magents 3-1 in the final.
Sorry Magents settled for second position and received P2 000 while the remaining four teams were given a consolation prize of P500 each.
Mompati Mbizo of Sorry Magents emerged as the player of the tournament and was given an Alcatel Orange Clif Android cellular phone while Itekeng FC’s Khumo Mmolawa was the top goal scorer and walked away with P200.
The goalkeeper of the tournament went to Nathan Mogorosi from Itekeng FC who earned P200 as well.
The founder of the tournament and councillor for Itekeng ward, Lesego Kwambala said that through his friends’ assistance, the tournament was sponsored to the tune of P10 000 and was a success.
The soccer tournament aims at uniting residents, as different teams came together to participate. He said they started with four teams, but that the number has increased to six this year.
Kwambala said the community also benefited as it provided small business people with a market.
Kwambala also appreciated people who took part and made the tournament a success.
He applauded the youth of Itekeng who responded positively and behaved well throughout the tournament.
The tournament also provided an opportunity for those who wanted to showcase their talent such as Memory Thomba aka Memo Billz who entertained the crowd with his rapping skills.
For his part, Billz said he appreciated the tournament as it gave him a platform to play his song which he composed while doing Form Two to a large crowd.
Christina Moloisi, an elder who also attended the tournament, said they never had such an event in their ward, adding that it was a beautiful experience.
The lineup of Disc Jockeys included DJ Slim, DJ Phongo and DJ Oxy.
The Zvamaronga hit maker, Thapelo Maleka alias, Mc Maswe graced the event as well as Madala and the Mad Girls.
The annual soccer tournament also attracted sponsors such as Carlos Sebina, the managing director of Destiny Car Rental who pledged P5 000 while Kabelo Ntobedzi, the head of Retail Care at Botswana Post also pledged P5 000. Ends
