Khama happy with developments

23 Jul 2015

Government is working hard to develop the country, despite limited resources.

Addressing a kgotla meeting at Pilikwe in the Sefhare/Ramokgonami constituency yesterday July 22), President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama said maintenance of Martin’s Drift and Mhalapitsa roads was an example of government’s commitment to development.

This roads project, he said, showed government’s devotion to equally distribute resources across the country.

He was responding to the Village Development Committee chairperson, Ms Semochi Kefhilwe, who applauded government for revamping the worn out Martin’s Drift and Mhalapitsa roads.

She said they had long complained of the potholes in these roads.

On other issues, President Khama announced that all Tirelo Setshaba participants will get their P700 allowances soon.

Earlier on, Kgosi Opelo Bopadile of Pilikwe complained of lack of water, despite water pipes passing near their village. He also complained that they had long pleaded with the government to tar the Pilikwe/Mhalapitsa/Pilikwe road.

Meanwhile, Ms Kefhilwe explained that they were experiencing shortage of teachers. She complained of shortage of staff houses and student toilets at their school. She said that they were also faced with lack of transport at the clinic, kgotla and the police.

She also complained of shortage of staff and medication at the clinic, especially diabetes and high blood pills. Ms Kefhilwe proposed that a senior school be built between Sefhare and Ramokgonami.

For her part, the Minister of Health, Ms Dorcas Makgato, said she was aware that there was shortage of medication in most health facilities across the country, but said that they had since rectified the situation.

She said government had bought about 100 new ambulances and hoped that the constituency would get its share. The Minister of Local Government and Village Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, said they were working on eradicating the backlog of toilets, school administration blocks and staff houses through the Ipelegeng programme.  He assured that funds permitting, government would address all the challenges.
