23 Jul 2015

Plans that are in place to assist farmers in the south eastern part of the country to alleviate the effects of drought are those approved by the government for the rest of the country, says Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Fidelis Molao.

Mr Molao said they include farmers who got loans for seasonal inputs through the Citizen Entrepreneur Development Agency and National Development Bank getting up to 85 per cent of their seasonal loans paid off by the government.

He further said that a 25 per cent subsidy was introduced on some livestock feeds sold at Livestock Advisory Centres (LAC) and Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB) such as drought pellets, lucerne, dicalcium phosphate, bran and salt

Ramotswa MP, Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked the minister about plans in place to assist farmers in alleviating the effects of drought in the south eastern part of the country. Mr Rantuana also wanted to know when the LAC would be established in Ramotswa. Ends
