Selebi Phikwe Senior Secondary outstanding

Selebi-Phikwe Senior Secondary School (SPSS) was a cut above the rest, scooping three tennis gold medals and one silver during the Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA) national competitions recently.

The tennis competitions were held in Gaborone recently.

SPSS players dominated the field with good tennis skills hence winning the boys’ singles, boys’ doubles and the mixed doubles titles.

Emmanuel Mabechu and Tshupo Mbizo were outstanding in the boys’ singles and went all the way to face each other in the final.

Mabechu won all SPSS players battle by beating Mbizo 6-3, 6-3 to win the title for the second year in a row.

Olefile Oye and Onkabetse Mompati were crowned champions in the boys’ doubles competition after defeating Brighton Keteng and Mhaladi Mhaladi of Lotsane 6-1, 7-6 in the final, while Mpho and Lesego beat Odirile and Puseletso of Moshupa to win the mixed doubles.

Portia Gaogakwe of Moshupa thrashed Finah Nchoko of Kgari Sechele 6-0, 6-0 to win the girls’ singles title, while Nonofo Bontle and Tshegofatso Molefe of Naledi defeated Thato Mangole and Felicia Mawala of Molefi 6-1, 6-1 to win the girls’ doubles.

The north central region got first position in the medal count with three gold medals and two silvers. South Central came second with one gold medal, two silvers and two bronze.

The south region finished third with one gold medal, one silver and one bronze, while the Northern region failed to win a single medal.

Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) president, Nelson Amanze said BISA competitions helped to unearth talent in schools. Ends
