Village Development Committee (VDCs ) guidelines have been set aside as the current instrument that is being used to guide the operations of VDC’s is the Local Government Regulations 2014.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said the regulations were current and would not need to be reviewed as they were only recently gazzetted in December last year.

Ms Tshireletso said the ministry had no plans to increase remuneration of VDC members as VDC allowances were increased in 2012, 2014 and again in April 2015. She also said the ministry had no plans in the foreseeable future to provide VDC umbrella chairpersons with transport due to budgetary constraints.

Mahalapye West MP, Mr Joseph Molefe had asked the minister if she was aware that the VDC policy was outdated and needed to be reviewed. Mr Molefe also wanted to know if there were any plans to increase remuneration of VDC officials and plans to provide VDC umbrella chairpersons with transport. Ends
