Sale of pool houses suspended
16 Jul 2015
Sale of pool housing was suspended a few years ago due to serious shortage of accommodation for serving public servants countrywide, says Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele.
Mr Maele told Parliament that the moratorium applied to pool housing built through direct government funding and those loaned on rental from Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC).
He said he was aware that some old pool houses in Francistown were uneconomic to manage and maintain. Also, he said the ministry was currently formulating inner city regeneration plans that would lead to redeployment of some areas which had houses that were uneconomic to maintain.
Tati West MP, Mr Biggie Butale had asked the minister why he did not allow the long term occupants of the BHC pool houses to purchase those houses using the Tenant Purchase Scheme.
Mr Butale also asked the minister if he was aware that the BHC in Francistown finds some of the old pool houses especially in Francistown uneconomic to possess and maintain. ENDS
