16 Jul 2015

Due to the financial difficulty experienced since 2008 that has been experienced worldwide, the ministry of Agriculture has not been able to replace all boarded vehicles and buy new one as was planned.

The Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Fidelis Molao told Parliament that the total number of vehicles under his ministry in the southern district stood at 104, while the number of vehicles currently off road and awaiting maintenance was 45.

Mr Molao said since decentralisation of the fleet to ministries, the ministry has budgeted for fleet maintenance and distributed the money to districts to maintain vehicles.

However, the assistant minister said the budget allocated to the ministry was still not sufficient for all maintenance requirements. He pointed out that for the southern district, there were currently requesting for quotation to maintain the 45 vehicles.

Kanye South MP, Mr Abram Kesupile had asked the minister if he was aware that officers from his ministry in the southern district were experiencing acute shortage of vehicles and to state the total number of vehicles under his ministry and the total number currently off road and awaiting maintenance.

Also, he wanted to know the reasons for failure to effect maintenance when detachment from the central transport organization was preplanned. ENDS
