University of Stellenbosch trains BCL employees

08 Apr 2013

BCL Mine employees should apply their knowledge to help the mine achieve results with little resources, the mine's divisional manager responsible for organisational capacity, Mr Motsile Sibanda has said.

Mr Sibanda was speaking at a graduation ceremony of 22 Management Development Programme (MDP) graduates who were trained by University of Stellenbosch Business School.

He said the training was timely because the mine operated in a competitive environment, which challenged BCL to be on the competitive advantage. Mr Sibanda said BCL also sought new learning opportunities and best practices and managers needed to be engaged on training to perfect their craft.

BCL embarked on MDP to build managerial competencies in its divisions. The mine held the view that development opportunity accorded to the graduates to pursue the programme had equipped them with relevant competencies to implement and drive the mine’s strategic objectives.

On the financial management, he was optimistic that the skills acquired would argument their competencies in the area of resource management.

Meanwhile, University of Stellenbosch portfolio manager for Africa, Mr Rashid Koroma said the university had a strong footprint in Africa and had embarked on a long journey knowledge acquisition and career development.

Mr Koroma hailed BCL as the university’s reliable client and they would continue to work together with the mine for human development.

However, graduates’ representative, Mr Leonard Marumo highlighted the importance of the programme stating that it was a “beneficial opportunity to learn management key competencies such as financial management which are a key to being a good manager.”  ENDS
