13 Jul 2015

Ministry of Education and Skills Development is aware that there is no Special Unit for learners living with disabilities or rehabilitation centre in the Boteti East area and does not have any plans currently to build such a facility.

Answering a question from the MP for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe in Parliament recently, the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse however said the ministry is implementing the Inclusive Education Policy of 2011 and the recently launched Education and Training Strategy Plan both of which advocate for the creation of learner friendly school environments.

He said this is meant to promote the inclusion and maximum participation in learning in mainstreaming schools by all learners including those living with disabilities.

In addition, minister Autlwetse said learners with disabilities in Boteti East were accommodated at Tsienyane Primary School where their current enrolment is 20 comprising of 13 males and seven females.

These learners, he said, are transported by Local Government vehicles to and from school.

MP Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister if he was aware that there was no school for the disabled or rehabilitation centre in the Boteti East area; and if so when the centre would be built.  ENDS
