Gaborone United bring in new committee
12 Jul 2015
Gaborone United membership converged at the University of Botswana auditorium on Saturday (July 11) to elect new office bearers.
Build up to the general assembly was marred with tensions by the two warring factions battling it out for available positions in the committee.
The newly elected office bearers would lead the Gaborone giants for the next four years before another committee could be ushered in to take control of the club.
It was sweet victory for former Gaborone United chairperson Fedelis Nkomazana who swapped positions to stand for the club’s presidency. At the eleventh hour, his opponent, Ntona Ketsitlile withdrew his candidature thus becoming a walk in the park for Nkomazana.
In the chairperson’ position, it seemed Tymon Katlholo would have a landslide victory against Rapula Okaile who contested as an underdog.
However, Okaile pulled a surprise beating Katlholo who was seemingly in the front seat due to his previous engagement in club structures.
Former Gaborone United skipper, Lepholetha ‘City’ Senne became secretary general after beating University of Botswana lecturer, Kennedy Ramojela.
At one point, Ramojela served the club as publicity officer while Senne served in the past as publicity officer and also team captain something which could have won him the admiration of many former players and diehard supporters of Moyagoleele.
Former treasurer, Kagiso Rantswaneng did not stand for any position and his position was contested by the club’s two closed books, Goitsemang Lonkokile and Nancy Borakanelo who served behind the scenes diligently over the past years.
Borakanelo became victorious in the end. One of Gaborone United’s ardent supporters, Tshekiso Kwati, said in an interview that he commended the spirit shown by his club’s card carrying members.
Kwati applauded all those who exercised their right by electing the right committee which he said would take the Gaborone giants back to their glory days. Ends
