Excellence awards encourages hard work

12 Jul 2015

Parents and teachers have been encouraged to inculcate the spirit of excellence in their children.

Head of Strategy and Communications of Botswana Post, Ms Lebogang Bok said the event reflects on the output of ‘’excellence.’’

The excellence awards ceremony for primary and secondary schools held in Mmathethe was held under the theme, ‘’Stakeholder Collaboration; A cornerstone Towards Academic Excellence.’’

The Collegium Education Publisher responded to the initiative by rewarding good performance in Goodhope sub region since 2013.

Ms Bok emphasised the need for the community to unite and work together to deal with challenges as it used to be in the past years.

She said the excellence awards initiative came as result of President Lt Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s initiative calling on Batswana to help the less privileged members of society.

Ms Bok said they found it appropriate to reward outstanding performance amongst learners in order to realise the vision pillar of an ‘Educated and Informed Nation.’

She noted that as the saying goes, “it takes a village to raise a child’’ hence the need for parents and care-givers to remain resolute, and see that children continue to learn effectively.

Ms Bok indicated that the gesture contributed significantly in adding value to the education system and called upon other corporate companies to rise to the occasion and assist.

She said parents’ role in loving, caring and guiding children was crucial in shaping their learning, and urged them to continue the good work to ensure success of their children.

‘’As Botswana post, we are passionate to reach-out to communities through our foundation, with the largest beneficiary of our goodwill being the Ministry of Education and Skills Development in Lobatse and Kgalagadi region," she said.

Ms Bok said students should understand that the job market has its own challenges facing the parents such as retrenchments, company closures and stagnated remunerations.

However, various schools in Goodhope sub-region won floating trophies with Diabo primary school winning most of the trophies for various subjects. Ends
