Kgathi recalls Seleka Springs statements
12 Jul 2015
Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi has recalled the two statements that he made in response to Gabane-Mmankgodi MP, Maj. General Pius Mokgware’s question no. 149 on December 10, 2014.
Through his question, Gabane-Mmankgodi MP wanted Defence, Justice and Security minister to state the number of tenders that were awarded to Seleka Springs (Pty) Ltd by the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) and the value of such tenders.
The two statements, Mr Kgathi said were specifically in response to the matter that was raised by Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi, wanting him to reconcile his response to question no. 149 of 2014 by Maj. General Mokgware and Mr Mmolotsi’s question No. 3 of December 15, 2010.
Mr Mmolotsi’s question no. 3 of December 15, 2010, the Minister said was responded to by former Ramotswa MP and the then Acting Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Ms Lesego Motsumi.
In specific response to Mr Mmolotsi’s request for reconciliation of the matter relating to Seleka Springs and the BDF defence acquisition, Mr Kgathi expunged, from the Hansard No. 165 part 2 of February 29 to December 17, 2010, the part relating to Seleka Springs in the response given by Ms Motsumi to Mr Mmolotsi’s Question.
This part, the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security said he accordingly expunged “as it was erroneous to have indicated that Seleka Springs was a supplier, when in fact it has never been.”
“In expunging of the part relating to Seleka Springs, the two questions shall remain as correction for questions no. 3 of December 15, 2010 and no. 149 of December 2014,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mr Kgathi tabled, before parliament, a Statutory Instrument No. 11 of 2015: Legal Aid Regulations. Ends
