09 Jul 2015

Construction of Molepolole Police Station which was deferred because of budgetary constraints will be submitted for consideration for the National Development Plan 11 (NDP11). Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi was however unable to give timeframe for construction of the project.

Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Kgathi said the project was deferred during NDP10.

He further explained that Molepolole Police registered a total of 316 cases of stock theft between 2010 and 2014.

“Of these 167 cases were closed for various reasons. Ninety cases were closed as false reporting, 46 cases were closed as undetected, and 31 were closed (but active) after the issuing of warrants of arrest for the suspects,” Mr Kgathi said.

He added that 36 cases were successfully concluded with convictions, while seven were completed with acquittal of convicted persons.

“The remaining 106 cases are at various stages of investigation,” the minister said. Molepolole South MP, Dr Tlamelo Mmatli had asked the minister when construction of Molepolole Police Station would commence. Also, he wanted to know the number of stock theft cases reported between 2010 and 2014. ENDS
