Past VP benefits contained in green book
09 Jul 2015
The retirement package extended to the immediate past vice president consist of one official vehicle with a driver and a state-funded medical insurance for self, spouse and dependent children, says the Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele.
Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Makgalemele said the package for the VP was contained in the (Green Book) Functions, Pay and Privileges for the Cabinet, Speaker and Deputy and the Leader of Opposition issued under the executive authority of the President as defined in Section 47 of the Constitution. In the event of death, he said non-financials such as cars remain the property of government and therefore revert to government.
Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister to state the comprehensive retirement package given to immediate past VP, under which law was used to award such a package. Mr Mmolotsi also wanted the minister to state what happens to vehicles in the event of death. ENDS
