Resource constraints hinder Zwenshambe JSS maintenance
09 Jul 2015
Zwenshambe Junior Secondary School was due for cyclical maintenance this financial year, but this will not be achieved because of resource constraints, the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse has said.
Mr Autlwetse said the school received major maintenance during the 2008/09 financial year which entailed building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing works and minor works continue through term contracts and call outs. The assistant minister said a water tank was recently constructed.
Furthermore, he said the school was part of the expansion project that took place in 2007/08 financial year, which entailed new classrooms, staff houses and external works such as the sewerage upgrade.
Mr Autlwetse said the above cases indicated that the school had not been neglected as maintenance would be carried over to the next financial year.
He said his ministry had embarked on an exercise to restore all science laboratories at junior secondary schools, including Zwenshambe.
The assistant minister was responding to a question from Tati West MP, Mr Biggie Butale who had asked if he was aware that Zwenshambe junior school has not been maintained since it was constructed in 1983.
Mr Butale wanted to know when will the school be maintained, and if the science laboratories will be equipped with test tubes, beakers and other equipment. ENDS
