Mopipi resident receives house tuck shop

09 Jul 2015

Career Dreams Centre recently donated a house and a tuck shop to 47-year-old Ms Kgoroemang Mopipi of Moeti Ward in Maun.

Speaking at the handing over of the P75 000 worth of project, the director of Career Dreams Centre, Mr Kenneth Karanja called upon the business community and members of the public to rally behind the President’s Housing Appeal initiative.

Mr Karanja pointed out that the Bible emphasised good neighbourliness, which was the objective of the housing appeal; to assist the underprivileged.

He said it was worrisome that people nowadays were self-serving and have a non-committal tendency towards helping one another.

Career Dreams Centre’s relationship with Ms Mopipi, he said, dated back to 2010 when they enrolled her daughter at Career Dreams Centre and later sponsored her for further studies at Limkokwing University.

Mr Karanja said they later learnt through the daughter that Ms Mopipi had been given baking equipment by the North West District Council but she needed a proper place to operate the bakery from.

He said the management later realised that Ms Mopipi also needed a better house because her current one was in a dire situation.

Mr Karanja said he approached a constructor who built the one-roomed house and the tuck shop. Career Dreams students volunteered their labour while FurnMart donated a bed worth P3000.

Career Dreams Centre also stocked the tuck shop and some members of staff will assist Ms Mopipi with business management skill until she can sustain herself, he said.

The Maun Administration Authority Chairman, Mr Gaokgakala Letswee commended Career Dreams Centre for their gesture, adding that Ms Mopipi was blessed to have received a gift of accommodation amongst many people who still live in abject poverty in the district.

Ms Mopipi expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Career Dreams Centre and the local council by helping her through the poverty eradication project. Ends
