With the winter chill biting in many parts of Botswana, Southern District Council chairperson, Mr Mephato Reatile, has appealed to the public and business community to donate blankets and clothing to help the needy.

Mr Reatile made the request during the hand over of 500 blankets on Tuesday (July 7) at Tomela Chambers, which will benefit four sub-districts in the Southern District.

The blankets were donated by the Satar Dada Foundation in Gaborone recently. The sub-districts to be allocated the blankets are Mabutsane, Good Hope, Moshupa and Kanye, and each will get 125 blankets.

The chairperson noted that donating blankets can make a difference to an individual’s life.

He appealed to social and community development officers to distribute the blankets fairly among the sub-districts, adding that they should involve councillors and other local authorities.

For her part, deputy council secretary Ms Lenah Mahalelo encouraged social development officers to distribute blankets looking at areas that have been hard-hit by destitution.
She thanked the foundation, adding that it also donated blankets last year. She revealed that the foundation also constructed houses and clinics in the district. Ends
