Gunners confident of success

Extension Gunners have expressed confidence that new coach Keitumetse 'Pio' Paul would bring glory days back to the club.

Mapantsula handed the former Botswana international player and assistant coach a two-year contract last week.

The club’s public relations officer Keorapetse Kgasa explained in an interview that the club was impressed with Paul’s work as their assistant coach last season hence they appointed him to succeed Calvin Petersen as their new head-coach.

“We were satisfied with his application in the little time he had with the team. Again as Gunners we found it appropriate to empower a local coach, who we felt has a lot of potential to guide and lead a big team like Gunners,” Kgasa said.

Last season Paul served as assistant coach to South African Petersen, and the duo helped Gunners to finish in the top eight bracket.

Paul, who represented the Zebras between 1995 and 2002, possesses a German B Coaching License.

He has also played for Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Uniao Flamingo Santos, as well as Chico Rooks in the USA College Soccer.

Kgasa believes that Paul is what the doctor has prescribed for Gunners and he will take the team back to its glory days.

Kgasa said Gunners will beef up their squad so that they could compete for honours. He added that Paul has a mission and vision to take the team to greater heights.

Gunners won the league three times in a row between 1992 and 1994 as well as the Coca Cola Cup in 1992, and 2011. They have also lifted the Kabelano Charity Cup three times in 1996, 1998 and 2001. It remains to be seen if Mapantsula can recapture that glorious form. ENDS
