Humble focussed Mogae says of Seloma

Memories of the late former diplomat and cabinet member, Mr Pelokgale  Seloma still held grip on the congregation, as remembrances of sacred were made at the memorial service which was held at the Seventh Day Adventist  Church in Gaborone on Wednesday (July 1).

The former Botswana’s High Commissioner to Zimbabwe, who also is a former Botswana Democratic Party Member of Parliament for Tswapong South and also former assistant minister of agriculture was described as a an eloquent singer, patient, generous, kind and a brave statesman.

Mr Seloma was also described by his fellow politician as a patient statesman, with great singing abilities. 

The former President Mr Festus Mogae described Mr Seloma whom he worked with during the time when he was a member of parliament and  a fellow politician and also as a member of the cabinet as a humble man and always focused on whatever task  he was assigned.

“We should celebrate the life that Mr Seloma lived.  We have lived, worked and loved him.  He is the one whom we knew that in times of challenges, that he was there to advice and provide understanding; however who are we to question the desires of our lord.  It is difficult to understand and accept,” he said.

He said the Botswana Democratic Party had lost a visionary leader whom his love as a human being was above partisanship.

Mr Mogae described the late Seloma  as a leader who was full of forgiveness, understanding,  virtual accommodation, an improbable man who would take time to explain concepts and try to understand the other person’s point of view saying that it was justified by the sadness in some of them as they remembered his friendship and advices.

His son, Kagiso Seloma thanked family members, relatives, friends who gave support during hard times of his father’s long illness.

An elaborative speech was made by his cousin, Mr Otsile Garekwe, about how he remembered Mr Seloma. 

He spoke of his genuine love for others, his generous, down to earth and fun loving person he was.  He was our guardian, friend and protector,” Garekwe said.

Mr Seloma will be buried in Pilikwe on Sunday.   He is survived by his wife and three children, two sons and a daughter.  ENDS
