The new chairperson of Tswapong South agricultural show, Mr Edwin Kethodilwe of Chadibe says he was disappointed by lack of support in preparations for the show.
Speaking during the show’s preparatory meeting in Machaneng recently, Mr Kethodilwe lamented lack of support by the community leaders such as deputy district commissioner, dikgosi, councillors, public servants as well as the community at large.
Mr Kethodilwe said the committee was now working under pressure because the dates for the show were changed from July 24-27 to July 17-19 to avoid clashing with other shows in the district.
The chairperson stated that the new dates needed a collective effort because there was a lot to be done in a short period of time. He pointed out that market stalls and kraals were in a bad state and needed urgent attention.
“This lack of support is a very serious hamper that may cause failure into what we are willing to do to our villages,” he added. One entrepreneur at Sefhare, Mr Marcus Wesson said he wanted the show to succeed.
“I do not want to see this show failing because it is crucial to us as business people, it gives us the opportunity to market our products,” Mr Wesson said.
He went on to say through the show, they had a chance to interact with other entrepreneurs and share business ideas and skills. Mr Wesson said the only time he heard about failing of their regional agricultural show was long time ago due to poor harvest and drought.
However, he urged the committee to persevere and change their mindset. “You should not be demoralised by any challenge, take your full responsibility as a committee and combat the ups and downs that you are going through,” he added.
For her part, the committee treasurer Ms Sinah Orateng said it was not their wish to see the show failing. “We already have some exhibitors who are willing to showcase their products so we do not want to disappoint them.”
Ms Orateng further said there were also some artistes from Sefhare/Ramokgonami constituency who had interest in entertaining during the official opening of the show. ends
