Kgagane benefits from housing appeal
29 Jun 2015
The Presidential Housing Appeal coordinator, Col Duke Masilo, has applauded Batswana for upholding the spirit of giving.
“On behalf of the Office of the President, we are very happy to witness that President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s initiative did not fall into deaf ears, Batswana are actually responding to it,” he said.
Col. Masilo said this when handing over a house built by the Banner Group in partnership with Sefalana to Ms Kedueleng Kgagane in Hukuntsi on June 26.
Since inception of the Presidential Housing Appeal in 2011, he said 465 houses were built and handed over to beneficiaries while 77 were still under construction.
Col. Masilo noted that the community needs to continue assisting government where possible in an effort to eradicate poverty because a lot of Batswana were in need.
Mr Khwae Keapereng, member of Banner Group expressed gratitude towards Macheng Brigade who volunteered to build Ms Kgagane’s house.
He encouraged the students to continue offering a helping hand to the needy within the society as a response to President Khama’s call of eradicating severe poverty within Botswana by the year 2016.
He also outlined that the experience was beneficial for the education they receive from their teachers because learning yields much better results to some students when taken out of the classroom.
Mr Keapereng urged the community not to belittle brigade students, but rather give them a chance to offer their services to the community in order to promote local empowerment.
He also explained that they did not only build the house but with the help of Sefalana, the house was provided with bedroom furniture and kitchen appliances.
The beneficiary, Ms Kgagane of Ga-thaga ward expressed her gratitude towards the house indicating that she was honoured to have received such a blessing.
She explained that government has for so long helped her sustain and maintain her life.
Ms Kgagane also stated that a roof on top of their heads would protect her and the children from harsh weather conditions and also restore back the family’s dignity. ENDS
