Ladies golf team heads to Zambia

Botswana women golf team has promised victory at the 2015 Ladies Golf Triangular tournament billed for Zambia.
The team leaves on Sunday (June 28) for the two-day event against Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Botswana Ladies Golf Union (BLGU) public relations officer, Catherine Mosimanekwena said the women had been practising and the preparations went well.
She said the team was ready to compete: “I can promise that when we come back we will have trophies to show,” said Mosimanekwena when addressing the media on Wednesday.
She said ladies golf in Botswana was still at a development level, but things were looking good as women had been coming forth and showing interest in playing the sport.
She said clubs have been swelling with players joining and taking part as shown by clubs in Francistown, Jwaneng and Lobatse. She added that the Triangular games afford them opportunity to groom ladies to play on competitive level.
She said most of the ladies who play regional golf have all gone through the Triangular games. She said therefore triangular games will help develop Botswana ladies golfers.
“We are aware of our opponents’ strength and weakness. Even them they know of our capabilities though we might be less experienced compared to them. The likes of
Zambians they know our girls are good as long hitters but we have since worked hard in improving our short hits,” she said. Mosimanekwena who has been playing triangular games for 10 years, said Zambia courses were different from the local ones.
“This will be my first participation in the triangular games, but I have since witnessed last year’s games which were hosted here, I can say my observation with the games is that they were highly competitive,” said Thomo Pule one of the players that will take part in the tournament in Lusaka.
Pule said she was aware the level of experience that the Zambians and Zimbabweans ladies possess was better than theirs.
The team will be competing on two categories, the A Division will compete Thomo Pule, Patience Matlotse, Itumeleng Medupe, Ellen Tafiranyika and Milly Nyaga, while on B Division consists of Malebogo Morebodi, Catherine Mosimanekwena, Ladies Changari, Gaone Gorowe and Lesedi Malinda.
The tournament will start on Monday (June 29) and the team is expected to return home on Wednesday (July 1). Ends
