Baboons cause havoc

Baboons are reportedly causing havoc in some farms in Nswazwi.
In a recent interview, some of the affected farmers lamented destruction caused by these animals. Mr Stephen Nthaba said he normally supplied the local primary school with the farm produce, but it seemed this would not happen for this year because baboons invaded his field almost daily.
The farmer said these baboons usually entered the fields early mornings when people were still at hom. He said all his watermelons and maize were destroyed.
Mr Nthaba said despite reporting the matter to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) authorities in Tutume, no assistance had been received.
Another farmer, Ms Ellen Tafa said she had ploughed two hectors of maize and watermelons, hoping that she would be able to feed her family but her efforst were in vain due to the baboons.
An official from Tutume DWNP office, Mr Mathata Sekgopi said they had received the reports but due to shortage of vehicles, they had not yet assisted the farmers. ENDS
