Matome encourages women to work hard

Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs, Ms Pearl Matome, says women should have their own source of income in order to improve their lives and that of their families.

Speaking during the Women Exposition workshop in Gaborone recently, Ms Matome said research had shown that women had less money in savings accounts as opposed to men.

She also said women still lacked behind in ownership of agricultural equipment such as tractors to till the soil for agricultural purposes. She encouraged women to work hard to generate income for their families despite the challenges they faced.

The managing director of Meshipping, Ms Mable Bannerman, encouraged women in Botswana to work together and those they should utilise the internet technology to market their products.

She said women should listen to radio stations and television so as to acquire information and knowledge on how to grow their businesses. She, however,  said challenges such as shortage of finance were y worrisome as it makes it uneasy for small entrepreneurs to grow. 

She said they should be focused in their businesses and make profit.The Women’s exposition which is in its 16th year in the south region is held under the theme, Beijing +20- women’s economic empowerment, prosperity and progress for all. ENDS
