Sankoyo rearing to go

25 Jun 2015

Sankoyo Bush Bucks assistant coach, Tiiso Gadimang, says preparations for the Barclays Kabelano Charity spectacular are on the right track.

The Ngurungu boys would join the three premier league kurus,  Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Township Rollers and Extension Gunners at the National Stadium on July 25.

Teams involved are expected to dish out a great one-day tournament where the champions would walk away with P242 000. Addressing a press conference regarding the preparations this week, Gadimang who is now the mentor after the firing of the head coach said the team had intensified the preparations and ready to compete.

He said at the moment, all players are in camp and they had started the recruitment of quality players to beef up his squad. He said they had approached several new players but still had to finalise their negotiations and other logistics.

He said his team has 30 players of which three are foreigners. The team manager, Odirile Sibanda said his boys had learnt a lot from the premier league and hoped they would display a sterling performance in the charity cup. He said an arrangement had been made to secure transport for fans.

He said about three buses are expected to transport supporters to the tournament.Regarding the issue of head coach, Sibanda said currently there are no plans at the moment to look for a head coach and that they would recruit an experience coach at the appropriate time.

He said they were fine with the assistant coach at the team.    On other issues, Sibanda said his team was still financially crippled noting that players were still owed their dues.
He said they were still waiting for their premier league price money to pay players.

He said they were unable to pay players because they spent more funds in the recent incidents where they were charged for using defaulters. Sibanda assured players that they would be paid before the beginning of the next season.

He explained that financially, the team relied solely on gate takings of which they were not adequate to take care of the players’ welfare.

Ngurungu boys had been relying on financial assistance from the Sankoyo Tshwaragano Management Trust, the executive committee, grant from the premier league and some micro funders. Meanwhile, the team would host awards on Saturday to appreciate efforts made by the players. Ends
