The annual Kabelo Dambe soccer tournament is billed for July 18-21.

The three-day soccer spectacle, which is supported by Botswana’s number one goalkeeper Kabelo Dambe, will be held at Monarch in support of a charity cause.

In an exclusive interview recently, Kabelo, who plays in South Africa for PSL side Platinum Stars, explained that this year’s tournament would display the best football talent that Monarch location youngsters had.

Dambe stated that tthey were planning to erect a stage at the Mexican Dogs grounds, where various Francistown artists and DJs would perform for free to the spectators who usually thronged the grounds in droves each year to watch their beloved teams battle it out for the soccer showpiece supremacy.

“We will invite artists like the Jazz sensation Poifo, kwaito star Alcano, funny man Desire and a whole lot of artist from around Francistown. Other interested artists are welcome to perform. The plan is to have an opening and closing ceremony for this year’s tournament,” he said.

He also noted that they intend to make this an annual tournament which will grow from strength to strength with each passing year hence he is leaving no stone unturned in preparation for this year’s tournament.

“There are eight teams that will be playing at the tournament. The Kabelo Dambe 2nd Annual Tournament 2015 T-shirts will be sold at the venue for P250 and all sizes are available.

The money from the t-shirts will be ploughed back into the 2016 tournament and a portion of it will go towards donating to the less priviledged members of the Monarch society. I grew up here in Monarch so I will always give back to the community that raised and made me who I am.” he said.

Last year’s Kabelo Dambe tournament was big. The Zebras goal minder spent close to P18 000 of his money to get the ball rolling, P12000 was spent on a kit that was used during the final match, P3600 for prize trophies, P400 to pay for the less privileged woman ’s water bill and also bought her P1000 worth of grocery.
