Delegation treasures visit to Kweneng

A delegation from the just-ended four-day Commonwealth Local Government Conference visited Kweneng District Council (KDC) on June 19 to benchmark on the council’s ongoing projects aimed at providing services to the communities.
The delegation, led by the minister of Malawi, Mr Trasizio Gowelo visited the P9 million Molepolole Service Hall at Mafenyatlala Mall and P139 million Molepolole Bus Terminal.
The Kweneng District deputy council chairperson, Ms Tshepo Warrius welcomed the delegation on behalf of council chairperson, Mr Jeffrey Sibisibi.
Briefing the delegation, the KDC chief executive, Mr Wazha Tema said the service hall facility was the first of its kind in the history of district councils and was being piloted by Kweneng District Council to ensure provision of service by most government department at a central area.
He stated that the service hall project had rented out an existing space and the council was responsible for the partitioning of the rented outlet, Internet connectivity, furniture as well as the coffee shop that would be available as one of the major components.
The facility, Mr Tema said, would be user-friendly and would have Internet connectivity or automation that would be a motivation to most youth.
Meanwhile, the Malawi Local Government Minister said the visit was an eye-opener and other African countries could adopt the concept for the implementation of their development projects. ends
