Authorities caution students

23 Jun 2015

Students have been urged to ensure they lay a solid foundation for their own future because indulging in social ills would not take them anywhere.

Mahalapye Sub-district deputy district commissioner, Mr Bakuedi Masole, implored the students during a Gweta Career Fair recently. Mr Masole noted that without a solid foundation, they would not realise their dreams.

He said as such it was imperative that individuals got their priorities right as soon as they begin school. Mr Masole stated that past generations did well in school despite difficult conditions.

He said notwithstanding complaints about shortage of resources, conditions had now improved. Also, he underscored the importance of students focusing on their work instead of things that could distract them.

He advised students to appreciate the value of determination and self-belief. Mr Masole regretted that some people’s lives were cut short because of inappropriate use of technology.

Mr Masole, therefore, urged students to take responsibilities for their actions, noting that in doing so, they would be able to learn from their mistakes.

He further encouraged them to take advantage of different stakeholders involved in the education system, noting that through career fair initiatives, they would be able to make enduring decisions.

“Your destiny is in your hands. Therefore it is important to make it happen yourselves,” said Mr Masole.

Meanwhile, Tutume principal education officer, Mr Otukile Chaba, advised students to appreciate government efforts to provide them with the best affordable education.

He said the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) introduced arts subjects at primary schools level after realising that some students did well in them.

That, he added, was so that there was continuity at junior secondary school. Mr Chaba encouraged students to make use of career fairs to get more information on future opportunities. Ends
