Kgatleng council to partner with air show organisers
23 Jun 2015
Kgatleng District Council will consider partnering with Matsieng air show organisers for the benefit of local businesses.
Addressing a full council session which kicked-off on Monday (June 22), the chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong said Matsieng air show had potential for good socio-economic spin offs.
“The event attracts multitudes of aviation enthusiasts and I have been informed that in the past four years up to 2015, it has attracted participants and spectators from as far as Zimbabwe, South Africa and Namibia.”
Mr Morolong said as a district, they were sitting on a gold mine that they were not fully utilising to make meaningful contribution to local economic development.
Major beneficiaries during the event were businesses and institutions coming from outside the district, he said. He said it was his sincere conviction that if they could engage the organisers of the event and make it a district event, the locals might benefit substantially.
He said there was also an urgent need to speed up completion of the Matshabe Nature Park, adding that it would benefit from the show. Ends
