Southern zone wrap up extravaganza qualifiers

22 Jun 2015

Wells, over the weekend, cemented their status in the softball league after walloping BDF 9-1 to occupy the final spot of the Selebi Phikwe Softball Extravaganza tournament.

The qualifiers played at the National Diamond saw Panthers finish top of Bracket B to automatically book a ticket to the July holidays tournament in Selebi Phikwe therefore challenging the rest to compete for the two vacant spots.

Police then toppled Wells 7-0 in what could be deemed the semifinal to join defending champions, Dinare who secured a wild card and Panthers who had proved their mettle.

Wells then redeemed their pride against BDF to complete the Southern Zone ladies pack being Dinare, Panthers, Police and Wells all headed for Selebi Phikwe in July.

The Jwaneng girls were too hot to handle hammering powerful balls which saw them deliver three runs in the first inning from Iponeng Molapong, Othusitse Molatlheng and Masego Morake.

BDF on the other hand just scored their solitary point in the first inning courtesy of Kemmonye Otimile.

Wells continued to torment the army girls in the second inning resulting in the opponents giving out a walk to Gaamangwe Moagi with all bases full to avoid being hit hard.

The walk conceded a point from Molapong and tactically saved BDF further anguish as Isang Isaiah was removed at batter’s box with all bases full.

Wells demolished BDF in the fourth inning smacking the ball which resulted in BDF swapping pitchers from Wangu Gondo to Tshepo Moremi.

The pitcher swapping seemed to have no impact on Wells as Lebang Mosime and Koketso Seteke registered points all thanks to Kelebogile Lesesere’s hit to the outfield.

Molapong and Lesesere also delivered runs from Molatlheng’s smack, and she later delivered the closing point.

The Southern Zone men’s qualifiers will be played on July 4- 5 at National Diamond and UB grounds. BOPA
