WUC manager admits inaccuracies

04 Apr 2013

Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) general manager for Serowe management centre, Mr Innocent Leonard has admitted inaccuracies of some water bills.

He was responding to concerns raised by residents of Mannonye ward during a kgotla meeting addressed by Serowe South MP, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi  on March 3.

The residents said since WUC took over water services, their bills had escalated despite the fact that consumption had declined as most of the taps had dried up.

They added that even if they had credit balance, it did not cushion the escalation hence raising scepticism that their credit balances were not reconciled on their next bills.

Mr Leonard said when clients complained about high water bills, the corporation took the metre readings again and in many occasions, they would discover that the recorded readings did not correspond. He noted that the inaccuracies were sometimes caused by putting wrong dates in the system.

He said the corporation estimated the bills when they were unable to get readings and they had realised that at times, credit balances were not reconciled in the successive bills. He however said they had started correcting such errors. ENDS
