Maele urges land boards to up their game
19 Jun 2015
Minister of Lands and Housing Mr Prince Maele has appealed to land board staff to up their game and improve the ministry’s performance and image.
Mr Maele said this when addressing Mahalapye Sub Land Board staff recently in Mahalapye.
He said the ministry’s performance was below par and this was because land boards were not performing, therefore, they should improve on their feedback and how they handle their customers.
He explained that their corporate image was tattered; Batswana no longer trust them but rather perceive them as corrupt and not trustworthy employees who are there to fulfill their personal interests.
Mr Maele said people no longer look at them as people who could help them but as thieves and people who are hungry for wealth, adding that this was not good as it also tarnishes the name of the ministry so they need to change.
He cited that as staff and board members they should know when to declare their interest so that they do not complicate the procedures, adding that if one does not declare before it is perceived as corruption in the eyes of the public.
He said they should also improve on many things such as how they help their customers especially board members, as they were their internal customers.
Mr Maele also appealed to them to be exemplary to Tirelo Setshaba and internship personnel and guide them on the best practice in their offices He also urged them to work closely with the village leadership such as dikgosi, councillors, district commissioner and non- governmental organisations in order to deliver to the public.
He said their involvement and support in their issues would go a long way in helping them to deal with community issues.
He appealed to them to speed up land allocation and clear the waiting lists and publicise them adding that publicising them would ensure transparency in land allocation and also help curb manipulation.
He urged that publicising them would also make the public free to monitor them and would curb stampedes and vandalism that took place in various land boards around the country. Ends
