04 Apr 2013

Botswana will this weekend host the ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division 7 tournament where six countries are set to participate.

Apart from hosts, national teams that would play at the week-long competition are Nigeria, Ghana, Germany, Fiji and Vanuata.

The tournament kicks off on Saturday morning with Botswana taking on Ghana at the Lobatse Oval, while Nigeria would face Fiji at the BCA Oval 1 and Vanuata meet Germany at BCA Oval 2.

The competition, which will run through to April 13, would be played in a round-robin format and the top two finishers would advance to the final to decide the champion.

Botswana would take on Vanuata at the BCA Oval 2 on Sunday then Nigeria at the same ground on Tuesday.

The hosts would then wrap up their round-robin matches with fixtures against Germany at BCA Oval 1 on Wednesday and Fiji in Lobatse on Friday.

The top two teams from the tournament would proceed to play in the WCL Division 6 in Jersey (United Kingdom) in July this year.

“The Botswana Cricket Association is extremely proud of the fact that Botswana will be hosting the ICC WCL Division 7 from April 6 to 13. This is the second time that Botswana is hosting the same tournament and that too consecutively, a feat that has not been achieved by any other cricketing nation thus far,” said BCA secretary – fixtures & publicity, Sumod Damodar.

Coach Arjun Menon’s squad includes captain Karabo Modise, Russel Whithey, Feroze Esaack, Tshepo Mhozya, Denzil Sequeira, Waseem Tajbhay, Karabo Motlhanka, Faisal Rana Rasheed, Thatayaone Those, Hasantha Namal, Segolame Ramatu, Saad Mohyuddin, Thabang Nshomane, and Nabil Master. ENDS
