WUC takes over water supply in Okavango
04 Apr 2013
Okavango residents have been advised to cooperate with Water Utilities Cooperation (WUC) in order to improve service delivery.
Speaking at the takeover of water services from the council, the North West District senior assistant council secretary, Mr Onthatile Molelu said the community should welcome WUC with open arms.
Mr Molelu said Okavango was a vast area that faced a lot of challenges. Therefore they should bear with the new water service providers.
He said some of the challenges to water distribution were bad roads, adding that pipes and water plant lines had been giving the district a problem because some were old and therefore kept on bursting.
He told the community that they would make sure that they handled the matter well with WUC, adding that as the corporation was still new in the region, people should be patient and bear with them should they encounter problems.
The Okavango sub-council chairperson, Councillor Samson Mauano also welcomed WUC in the region, urging the residents to pay their water bills on time to avoid unnecessary water cuts.
He also assured WUC that the council and the district commissioner’s office would continue working together as one.
When giving a keynote address, Deputy Permanent Secretary (DPS) in the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kgomotso Abby, said the community should expect benefits such as improved service delivery, reduced incidents of pollution and coordinated planning of the future developments of water resources.
