Athletics team competes in Mauritius

The athletics team left for Mauritius on Wednesday (June 10) where they will compete in Southern region senior championships on Friday (June 12) to Saturday (June 13).
The competition will also be used as qualification for the World Championships to be staged in China in August, as well as All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.
BAA vce secretary, Olebogeng Oitebetse, said she was confident that they had assembled and sent a capable pool, which would make the nation proud. She said the athletes were resolute to host the country’s flag very high, adding that most of the athletes have been doing very well in different competitions.
Oitebetse further said Botswana Javelin specialist Stephan Beukes, did not also travel with the team because he was writing his examinations.
She said in 100 metres-men, the country will be represented by Baboloki Thebe and Karabo Mothibi, in 100 and 200 metres women, in the absence of Tsaone Sebele who was a marvel to watch in the recent Sports View International and BAA National Championships who could not travel with the team due to school commitment the country will pin its hope on Leungo Matlhaku.
Baboloki Thebe will again compete in the 200 metres together with Gaone ‘Lux’Maotoanong, and Boitumelo Masilo will compete in the 800 metres, Maotoanong together Sakarea Kamperuka with vie for 400 metres
In the women 400 m, Botswana will pin its hope on 400m Christine Botlogetswe and
Goitseone Seleka, while Oarabile Babolayi will compete in 400m hurdles
Botswana 4×1000m men relay team is made up of Baboloki Thebe, Karabo Mothibi, Gaone Leaname Maotoanong and Keene Motukisi.
4×400m men’s relay will be represented by Gaone Leaname Maotoanong, Sakarea Kamperuka, Karabo Sibanda, and Boitumelo Masilo
The 4x 400 m women is made up of Christine Botlogetswe, Goitseone Seleka, Oarabile Babolayi, Galefele Moroko
Gobe Takobana and Aobakwe Nkobela will compete in high jump men while the Tshwanelo Aabobe will compete in the long jump/triple jump, the expected back home on Sunday, June 14. ENDS
