Mokaila drums up support for the needy

03 Apr 2013

The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila has challenged the business community to assist the underprivileged.

Speaking during his ministry’s community service day at Kamogelo Orphanage Home in Tsolamosese, Mr Mokaila also emphasised the need for individuals to show support for people in need.

“We have to show compassion to the underprivileged and see to it that we adhere to their plight,” he said.

Kamogelo was established by the Roman Catholic Church in 1996. It has an annual enrolment of 50 children and 500 orphaned children have so far graduated from the centre since its inception.

Mr Mokaila applauded retired Bishop Boniface Setlalekgosi for his visionary leadership towards supporting the welfare of the underprivileged in society.

For his part, Bishop Setlalekgosi expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club for its support through the American Embassy towards construction of the school structures.

He said the annual P200 000 funding from the Roman Catholic Church was not sufficient to cater for the needs of the institution and appealed to good samaritans to extend  a helping hand towards the orphanage.

The school manager, Sister Margaret Mosala said the institution was struggling to make ends meet, adding that they did not operate on the budget that could sustain them.

He thanked Mr Mokaila for being the first minister to visit the institution. ENDS
