Put your house in order - Sebego
07 Jun 2015
Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Tebogo Sebego has urged the Botswana Premier League (BPL) to nurture and protect partnerships it has with beMOBILE for the league and Mascom Wireless for the Top 8 tournament.
Speaking at the BPL general assembly on Saturday June 6, Sebego said the BPL should also ensure that their sponsors did not suffer bad publicity.
He said football had taken a “knock” recently through controversies.
He noted that towards the end of the league, there were problems with protests and other things that created a bad image for the game of football.
Sebego said the 2014-2015 season was exciting in terms of play and competition, but that things were marred by lack of appreciation and application of the rules.
He said some administrators made decisions in bad faith.
“But we always have to remember that football is bigger than all of us. We are holding positions for people not for ourselves, and whatever agenda we push it has to encourage football to succeed and to grow as a brand,” he said.
He also reminded them that they had the responsibility to be the image of football in the country, and thus should ensure that they run their league smoothly.
“Honestly, it has been a difficult year for both BFA and BPL because of the negative publicity that both institutions have been attracting,” he said.
Sebego further challenged the general assembly to introspect to see where the BPL and clubs had gone wrong in terms of protecting the image of the game. ENDS
