Debswana Diamond Company’s Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) has donated P200 000 to Tutume community for the construction of a kgotla shelter.

Handing over the donation, the senior support services manager and chairperson of Debswana OLDM Sustainability Committee, Mr Thatayaone Sithole said, through the committee, they managed to raise P3.7 million for the whole year and they donated part of the money to various schools in the Boteti area and had adopted one of the schools in the area.

Mr Sithole urged the Leobo committee members to be selfless and work together with the community to meet their target. Furthermore, he urged the community leaders to have a tour of the mines to get first-hand information about what is happening.

The Tutume Leobo committee chairperson, Mr Manyalo Nduna, said the existing shelter was too small and they required a bigger structure for current and future needs. Mr Nduna said so far, they had raised P122 000, which was contributed by residents and some business people in the community.

He further said the project needs P1.5 million to construct and urged donors to come on board. Also, he appreciated the gesture, noting that they were still far from reaching their target of raising the amount required to do the project.

Tutume sub-district council chairperson, Mr Ishmael Mokgethi commended Debswana Sustainability Committee for engaging in such projects.

Mr Mokgethi said they had done a remarkable job, adding that they have set a good example for others. ENDS
