Manilah Investments donates school tuck-shop

02 Jun 2015

Manilah Investments company has donated a school tuck-shop to Tshegetsang Junior Secondary School in Molepolole.

Officially handing over the tuck-shop recently, Botswana Accountancy College executive director, Mr Michael Lesolle said the facility would be handy to the 47-year-old school since there was no convenient place to buy small items for both teachers and students.

Mr Lesolle also noted that his institution would pledge an opening stock of not less than P10 000. He said the tuck-shop symbolised a business centre, hence it would be ideal for students to run it.

As such, he challenged business studies students to come up with ideas that would facilitate the running of the tuck-shop as a business. He also pledged support in the management and operation of the tuck-shop.

Furthermore, he urged students to take education seriously emphasising that education increased with value.  However, he expressed concern about the school’s performance during last year’s examination results where it attained 35.5 per cent ABC pass which he said was not good enough.

“We will do everything with our stakeholders to lift your performance,” he said. He was also concerned about students’ part in the educational tripartite, adding they must be seen to be playing their role to better and sustain their future.

On one hand, Mr Lesolle challenged Batswana to contribute to the national vision.

He argued that when the vison was born, expectation was that every Motswana would play their part, hence a commendable effort by Manilah Investments company for creating a long term partnership with the school.

The schoolhead, Ms Marinah Ramotshabi also commended the company, adding their relationship with Manilah Investment Company started after the company completed the school’s cycle maintenance in 2012.

Ms Ramotshabi also indicated that the partnership started with a donation of P10 000 towards the school’s prize giving ceremony in the same year.

Also, she said the company had assisted them with transport which she added had always been a challenge.

A company representative, Ms Kereeditse Radimpanyana also commended the partnership saying they would, having adopted the school, continue doing projects with the school, among them sign boards, bill boards and labeling of the parking area.

Radimpanyana added that they would also build rest places for students during lunch and tea break as well as replace boys’ toilet doors. ENDS
