Molefhi hands house to needy family

Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Mr Nonofo Molefhi, recently handed over a three-bedroomed house and a toilet to Ms Kesakang Matlopi and her family at Selokolela in Southern District.

Mr Molefhi commended the Department of Building and Engineering Services (DBES) staff at the Kanye depot for extending a helping hand by building the house for the needy family.

He encouraged the staff to continue with the good work and team spirit as their days of living would also be increased. He said the house would not only accommodate Ms Motlopi alone as she stayed with 23 other family members.

Minister Molefhi stated that staff from DBES Kanye went out to source funds for the project from good Samaritans in the form of businesses and individuals and also making personal contributions.

He said he was proud to be associated with such caring staff with a big heart. “I am aware that our staff in other parts of the country is also involved in community projects. I also urge other public servants to take seriously the issue of helping those in need,’’ he said.

He said good gesture has the blessings of the good lord, adding that blessed is the hand that gives. The minister promised that his ministry would connect water to the house and fit floor tiles soon.The minister encouraged the family, which used stay in two traditional huts to look after the house properly.

For his part, the Kanye Depot manager, Mr Rogers Tamusungu said this was in line with the President appeal to ministries, private sector and individuals to assist the less advantaged people.
Mr Tamusungu said they found it appropriate to extend a helping hand to the needy family, adding that the ground breaking of the project started in March 2014.

Gaborone branch bought groceries, vegetables, bed and bedding for Ms Matlopi.

For her part, Ms Matlopi thanked DBES staff for showing compassion towards her family, saying she and her family had been sleeping under a tree during harsh climatic conditions. 
Ms Matlopi said the staff had done a good thing before the eyes of God and Selokolela community, and encouraged them to keep that good spirit. Ends
